OIT Frequently Asked Questions

Problem: How do I find my hostname?
Entry: 0158

Solution:

If you are using the RESNET system and for some reason you have lost your hostname on your machine, then simply re-register with DHCP at the following site:
http://www.resnet.gatech.edu
If you are using the EASTNET system and and for some reason you have lost your hostname on your machine, then simply re-register with DHCP at the following site:
http://www.eastnet.gatech.edu

For CSRs or in other instances, when you know an IP address, then log into ACME and type the following command:
/usr/sbin/nslookup <IP Address>
For example, if my IP address was 128.61.15.25, I would type in:
/usr/sbin/nslookup 128.61.15.25
Which would result in the following information displayed:
Server:  troll-gw.gatech.edu
Address:  130.207.244.251

Name:    resnet.gatech.edu
Address:  128.61.15.251

The hostname I am looking for is: resnet.gatech.edu
