Solution:
If you are receiving e-mail or junk mail that you don't want then you have a couple of options.
- Simply delete it. This is the most effective option. Do NOT reply to the sender. This will confirm your address to them.
- If the e-mail is harassing in nature, then you should:
- Send e-mail to support@oit.gatech.edu detailing the situation (include the message headers).
- If the account is an off-campus account, then send an email to postmaster@domain. For example, if johndoe@foo.com sent me harassing e-mail, then I would contact postmaster@foo.com.
- You can filter messages from your e-mail based on the
X-GT-Spam-Ratingheader. This header will contain 0-10 '#' characters. The more#s there are, the more likely it is that this message is spam. If you are using a full featured mail client like Eudora, Thunderbird or Outlook, you can filter messages as they are downloaded. If you would like to have mail filtered as it arrives on the server, you can use the Mail Tools at http://tools.mail.gatech.edu/.NOTE: A couple of things you can do to safeguard your address.
- Never enter your e-mail address on a web page form.
- Make sure your signature doesn't have your e-mail address. (or make it look like: gt9999x@NOSPAMmail.gatech.edu) People using the address will need to remove the NOSPAM.
