More Information on Migrating Some Data Manually

If you wish to migrate some data from a pre-existing Dropbox personal account, verify that your current Dropbox personal account is not using a username in this format, gtaccount@gatech.edu.  

Example: If your GT Account is gburdell3, verify that your current personal Dropbox account is not gburdell3@gatech.edu.

If it is in this format and you do not wish to migrate data, you can follow one of the following procedures:

Option 1: Rename your personal Dropbox account BEFORE requesting a GT Dropbox account.

Change your email address on dropbox.com:
  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your name in the top-right corner of any page.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Select the Profile tab.
  5. Click Change email

Option 2: Rename your personal Dropbox account AFTER requesting a GT Dropbox account.

Once your GT Dropbox account is ready, you will get an email notification.  The first time you log in to Dropbox after your GT Dropbox account is ready, it will prompt you to either Migrate or Rename your existing Dropbox personal account.  You should follow the on-screen prompts to rename your personal Dropbox account.

Once both accounts exist, you can connect your Personal Dropbox to your GT Dropbox account and drag-and-drop between the two accounts (Web, Mac, or PC).
