Dropbox Team Folder FAQs

A Dropbox team folder is a powerful tool for sharing with your team.  With team folders you can:

  • Automatically sync content in team folders to all group members
  • Choose to share individual files or folders inside a team folder

Team folders are shared via Dropbox groups and are the hub of content for the team.

  

How do I synchronize groups into Dropbox?

The process for synchronizing groups from our on-premises campus systems into Dropbox is different from the process used for Office 365.  Please read and follow the FAQ before submitting support requests for syncing Dropbox groups.  Thanks!


Departmental CSRs can synchronize groups into Dropbox using groups from Georgia Tech’s Active Directory (AD). 

How do I share a folder in Dropbox?

  1. Next to the folder, click Share
  2. Type in the email address for each person you want to share your folder with.  (Please note:  All GT Dropbox users are listed as gtaccount@gatech.edu.)  
  3. Set their access level; Can view vs Edit.

Protecting Data in Dropbox

GT Dropbox is an Enterprise file sharing service.  As such, it can be easy to accidentally share or make available data to unintended viewers.  Please be careful and mindful of when and who you are sharing with.  Securing your data is your responsibility.

You can safely store the following types of data in GT's Dropbox service.  Do not store these data types in a personal Dropbox account.

Rename Your Personal Dropbox Account

If you do not wish to migrate any data from a pre-existing Dropbox personal account, then please verify that your current Dropbox personal account is not using a username in this format, gtaccount@gatech.edu.  

For instance if your GT Account is gburdell3, verify that your current personal Dropbox account is not gburdell3@gatech.edu.
