What are the password requirements for my GT Account?

This FAQ was last modified on: Monday, September 18, 2017 11:51am

OIT requires that you change your password about every 120 days (3 times per year). If you have DUO 2 Factor authentication enabled, you are only required to change your password once every 365 days. If you do not change your password when asked, your password will expire. You will no longer be able to login to various services such as BuzzPort, MyGaTech email, & LAWN (GTwifi). Once a password expires, you have 21 days to login to PassPort with that password and change it; however, you MUST connect directly to https://passport.gatech.edu.

Alternatively, you will be able to change your password beyond this time if you have previously set up Hinted login at PassPort. Click on the "I have forgotten my password" link in the Help section. Remember that the answers to your Hints are NOT case sensitive. However, they must match exactly the way you originally created them (spaces and symbols matter). Also, if asked for your Buzzcard number, enter it like it is on the back of your card. The spaces are optional, but all 16 digits should be typed in.

For further information concerning the selection of a good password please review the GT Password Policy.

In addition to these rigid restrictions, there are a two guidelines you must follow in order to be in compliance with Georgia Tech's Computer and Network Usage and Security policy (CNUS) :

  1. Do not write your password down.
  2. Do not share your password with ANYONE. Not your secretary, not your parents... not even OIT.
