How do I setup a new homepage on the Prism Web Server?

To create a webpage on the prism site, you must first be a current affiliate (faculty, staff, or student) of Georgia Tech. Below are a few things that are critical for your success in creating a webpage on the prism site:

  1. You MUST create a "public_html" folder on the root directory your account. All your webpage files, MUST, originate from inside that folder in order for the world to see your site. Note that the folder has ONLY lower case letters for the name. Eg. //gpburdel2/public_html
     
  2. You must make sure that you set the permissions recursively for all directories (folders) INCLUDING YOUR USER folder. Eg. gpburdel2. Not that the example below is only showing pernissions for the "public_html" folder. Again, you need to set the permissions for your "user" folder which is one level up!


     

  3. You will need to use software such as FUGU (Mac) or WINSCP (Windows) to access your files and set the correct permissions. For linux users you can use any SFTP client. Please see below for helpful links:

Also, please remember that if you are trying to connect from an off-campus location, you MUST use the GTvpn (Anyconnect client) to connect to campus. Once you have uploaded the files to your prism site, you can access that webpage by doing the following:

  1. Visit: www.prism.gatech.edu/~YourGTusername (Of course this is assuming that your files are in the "public_html" folder using an "index.html" file.)
