The Office of Information Technology suggest that you find a free virus software for use on your computer. OIT does not provide anti-virus software for student computers.

For Windows computers - Microsoft Security Essentials for PCs http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download
For OS X computers - Sophos Anti-virus for Macs http://www.sophos.com/.

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) can be downloaded directly from Microsoft's website. The preferred method is to download it via Microsoft Update which is in Windows Update. This ensures that there are no other Anti Virus products installed that will cause conflicts later. This applies to Windows 7 and Windows Vista computers. For Windows 8 it already comes with an Anti Virus product which is Windows Defender (WD), same as MSE just renamed. People who have Windows 8 preinstalled from the Manufacturer will need to uninstall their AV product to turn Windows Defender on. Its going to need to be uninstalled in 2 places. The Windows 8 Metro screen and the Programs and Features uninstaller. If they still don't want to use MSE/WD, another option that can used is AVG http://www.avg.com/.

If you previosly installed McAfee on your computer when it was provided by OIT, we recommend that you uninstall it or visit the Technology Support Center and have them uninstall it for you.
